The Fetal Medicine unit at ARMC provides care for pregnant women by doctors who have trained in ultrasound scanning and fetal medicine abroad.
Our ultrasound scans are performed to the highest standards and are backed up with informative and sensitive counseling.
Viability scan
This is an ultrasound examination that is usually carried out vaginally at 6-10 weeks of pregnancy.
The aims of this scan are to determine the number of fetuses present and whether the pregnancy is progressing normally inside the uterus.
This scan is useful for women who are experiencing pain or bleeding in the pregnancy and those who have had previous miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies.
The 11-13 weeks scan
This scan is carried out from 11 weeks to 13 weeks and six days. The scan is usually performed transabdominally but in a few cases it may be necessary to do the examination transvaginally.
Aims of the 11-13 weeks scan
We consider infertility counselling to be a key element in the provision of infertility services for all patients. We are sensitive to the emotions experienced by the infertile couple and the stress of the treatment itself. Infertility counselling is available to patients at any time during the course of treatment and compulsory and routine before getting into the IVF treatment cycle.
Implications counselling
Implications counselling provides an emotionally safe place in which to explore what treatment will involve and the lasting implications for you and those close to you. We also convey the message that we strictly do not use any donor gametes or surrogate uterus for the purpose of treatment.
Support counselling
Support counselling provides an opportunity for you to explore your feelings, coping strategies and relationship issues (with partners, family, friends and colleagues). You might find that you need support at different stages of treatment, therefore support counselling can be undertaken before, during and after treatment.
Therapeutic counselling
Therapeutic counselling is provided to assist you in acceptance of your situation as well as providing, where required, longer-term support if you find fertility treatment distressing and in helping accept the consequences of ending treatment and to move on to other options.
The Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Clinic assists women and couples experiencing three or more miscarriages, a late pregnancy loss, or women over thirty-five with two miscarriages. A team of health professionals, including doctors, nurses and technologists work together in our team.
We offer the following services:
Miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before twenty weeks. It occurs in about fifteen percent of all pregnancies. Many miscarriages take place in the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, sometimes even before a woman knows she is pregnant. Miscarriage is often an upsetting event and with repeated miscarriages, a woman or a couple can find themselves on an emotional roller coaster.
Some Reasons for Recurrent Pregnancy Loss:
There is sometimes more than one reason for recurrent pregnancy loss so investigations need to be complete. There may be other causes we cannot yet identify.
Possible Tests and Procedures:
Investigations can often take about two months. Once all the information is gathered, the physician will discuss possible treatment options with you.
Menopause is the permanent end of menstruation and fertility, defined as occurring 12 months after your last menstrual period. Menopause can happen in your 40s or 50s, but the average age is 51 in the United States.
Menopause is a natural biological process. Although it ends fertility, you can stay healthy, vital and sexual. Some women feel relieved because they no longer need to worry about pregnancy.
Even so, the physical and emotional symptoms of menopause may disrupt your sleep, cause hot flashes, lower your energy or — for some women — trigger anxiety or feelings of sadness and loss.
